An adventurous eagle named Min racked up a huge phone bill last summer. A team of Russian scientists wanted to figure out where endangered eagles spend their time. So, they outfitted 13 birds, including Min, with tracking devices. The devices texted the eagles’ GPS coordinates to the scientists four times a day.
Min spent several months out of range of cell phone towers, so his tracker couldn’t send any text messages. When he reappeared in Iran, his device got to work sending all the backed-up messages. The overseas bill was so expensive that the team started a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for Min’s phone bill!
